summer 2013

Dear all:

It has been a rainy summer in Georgia!  It feels like it hasn't stopped!  We are looking forward to some sunshine and giving our rain coats a rest (even Blue has been using her jacket!).  I can't believe it is already July, time has really flown.  I completed my field experience course, our last trip was to the Georgia coast.  We were able to visit a sea turtle center that helps injured turtles and then releases them back into the ocean.  We also saw a driftwood beach, tons of crabs and a jellyfish.  Dash, our new puppy, has been with us since the end of May.  He has tons of energy, his name suits him!  Dash and Blue have become fast friends and play together whenever they get the chance.  He is growing so fast though, already has grown 10 pounds!  Gregor, my bearded dragon, is almost growing as fast as Dash.  In February Gregor was 9 inches (head to tail) and is now 13!  He will continue to grow until his birthday (or more accurately his hatch-day) on November 18th.  I'm confident my future students will love him, and I work on handling him frequently so that he will be tolerant of the middle school students.  I will start student teaching this fall, although I will not be full time until spring.  In the fall I will only go in twice a week and in spring I will have to go in everyday.  I am still anxiously awaiting to hear what school they place me in.  The beginning of my student teaching will mark the end of my 2 years at PetSmart.  I will miss many of my frequent customers, but I am happy to be able to focus all my time on my last year of university.  Many of my co-workers have already left because our company has cut our hours due to a policy change, so right now I am training many new cashiers.  Roy has started to train for a triathlon.  He has always been a runner so he is excited to expand into 2 new areas.  I have been doing some work-outs with him but I will only be training for the half marathon.  We are so excited for Missy and Dave and can't wait to see more photos!

Making The Move Official!

Hi Beyers!

Well I guess I will go ahead and tell you about my latest adventure here in Texas!  I am MOVING!  Not far, just a couple miles to the town of Tomball, TX.  I am in the middle of purchasing my first home, and it's definitely a learning process, as my Dad can attest with all the phone calls I've been making this spring.  The close date is set for August 30, so please come help move and un-pack if you would like to visit!  It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1700sq ft ranch on a cul-da-sac.  I'll put some picture below.

For the summer I again working at SplashTown water park.  I was promoted to an aquatics supervisor this summer and also a lifeguard instructor.  Since about February I have been assisting out team in training about 400 lifeguards for our park -- talk about an exciting adventure!

On the school front, finished my FOURTH year teaching! I can't believe it's been that many either!  It was another successful year with 100% of my students passing their Algebra I state exam, which is very exciting.  I was given my amazing schedule again for this upcoming school year with 4 algebra classes and two athletic classes.  I will still be coaching 7th grade football but they are moving me to offense so I'll be learning a little bit this fall on that front.  I will still be the 7th grade and 8th grade assistant track coach as well.

This summer I am heading to Vegas with friends from work -- this will be my first trip and I can't wait! Other than that, I'll be home to run with Angela in her first 5K then to visit some friends in and around Chicago before heading back to Houston.

Hope all is going great for everyone else!

Love,
Scott

Getting ready for summer

Hello everyone!  It has been  a busy few months for us.  I decided to take more classes in the spring semester so that I would be free to work more this summer and it was a packed semester!  I am so happy to be finally through with it and on to my last semester before student teaching, my maymester.  I am doing a 3 week maymester course titled The Natural Environment of Georgia.  It is an amazing course that has 5 field trips so that we can experience the 5 different eco-regions of the state.  This week we experienced the Piedmont and Blue Ridge regions.  We have been doing some pretty exhausting hikes but it is so worth it!  We get to see some beautiful views and learn about so many different species.  I am eager to bring this new information into my future classrooms.  Once I've finished with this course both my mom and I will be off for the entire summer.  Roy will be taking more classes, but he is excited to be getting into his first computer science courses.  We will also begin training once more for the Atlanta half.  Last year I started in July but this year I hope to get more serious in June, right when my class finishes.  We are also looking forward to the summer so that we can introduce Gregor to the outdoors.  Gregor is our latest edition to the family, he is a baby Bearded Dragon and because he is ectothermic he could not go outside during the cooler months.  He came to us from Orlando in February and has not stopped growing!  Currently he is 12 inches, but I am hoping that he reaches the full size of 24 inches by his birthday, which is November 18th (or should I say hatch-day!).  Hopefully Gregor will be joining me on my teaching journey to become my class pet.  He is very docile so I believe he will be great with my students.  I am more than ready for summer to arrive and I can't wait to see what's in store for the fall!  Enjoy some of my photos taken from the Blue Ridge eco-region.
