summer fencing

Rodrigo and I joined Fencing Star Academy! This fencing club is super fun because it fences with all three weapons: epee, foil, and sabre. Our coach Oswaldo was the olympic coach for the Venezulan team before coming to America and his son is the 8th best foilest in the world! We are learning so much! I am continuing to do epee but Rodrigo has recently switched over to foil, but he will still practice epee at school. It is so much fun and such a great work out!

So neat to hear you're having so much fun and that Rodrigo likes fencing just as much as you do! What are the fencing instruments/weapons? anyway? Is the foil the long pointy sword? How long is camp?

FSA (Fencing Star Acedemy) isn't a camp, it's a club, which means it's like a team but all year round. We can practice everyday except for sundays, but Rodrigo and I usually go only monday, tuesday, and sometimes thursday. FSA lets you practice with all 3 weapons which are epee, foil, and sabre. They each resemble a sword but when you think of fencing you probably think of sabre, that's the largest sword and it envolves the running at each other and screaming. All three weapons are the same length but foil is the thinnest and most flexable and sabre is the thickest, epee is inbetween. The difference between the three is target area; in epee you can hit anywhere on the opponent's body, in foil you can only hit the torso area, and in sabre you can hit the torso and arms. There are alot of other nit-picky things that make each weapons different, but you can get the general idea :D
